KIRCHHOFF Automotive is proud to announce that its ambitious Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative.
Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas emissions
KIRCHHOFF Automotive SE commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from 2022 base year.

KIRCHHOFF Automotive SE also commits to increase active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 46% in 2022 to 100% by 2030.

KIRCHHOFF Automotive SE further commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 25% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
The company’s science-based targets were validated under the legal name KIRCHHOFF Automotive AG. Following the company’s legal conversion to KIRCHHOFF Automotive SE, the validated targets continue to apply to the same legal entity and organizational boundary.
Environmental Impact Stories at KIRCHHOFF Automotive
We have always been aware of our environmental impact and the challenges of operating in a carbon-intensive sector, and now we are further intensifying the transition to minimize our carbon footprint. For this reason, the company is launching numerous initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve defined environmental performance indicators, as for instance significant engagement in projects with international partners on decarbonization.

Cooperation on CO₂-reduced steel
KIRCHHOFF Automotive is advancing its sustainability goals by integrating selected steel grades with a lower verified greenhouse gas emissions intensity into its production processes. To this end, the company has formed strong partnerships with major European steel producers such as ArcelorMittal, Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, SSAB and Stegra. These collaborations focus on validating new steel grades and using steel grades with lower verified greenhouse gas emissions intensity in series-produced car bodys components.
According to our emissions inventory, around 90% of the reported carbon footprint comes from conventional steel and aluminium. Therefore, we evaluate steel grades with a lower verified greenhouse gas emissions intensity than defined conventional reference grades.
In January 2024, KIRCHHOFF Automotive signed a €130 million, seven-year supply agreement with Stegra, securing steel with a substantially lower contracted greenhouse gas emissions intensity than conventionally produced steel. In partnership with SSAB, the company has already begun incorporating fossil-free steel into the production of front bumpers, cutting CO₂ emissions by nearly 40%.

This marks significant progress toward our 2030 commitment to achieving 100% renewable electricity across all our operational sites. As a result, we have achieved a 59% reduction in market‑based Scope 2 emissions compared with our 2022 baseline.
