In April, colleagues from Esztergom took part in the NN Ultrabalaton running race, one of Hungary’s largest sporting events, for the first time. Our 12-member team successfully completed the 211-kilometre course, running day and night in relay.
After 22 hours and 19 minutes, the team crossed the finish line just before dawn.
This year’s event saw a record number of participants, with over 28,000 runners from nearly 30 countries. We are proud to say that our team excelled not only in running but also in organizing. Coordination was led by Bálint Ádám and Laura Szigeti from the Quality department, who managed last-minute changes, team member replacements, and unexpected route adjustments with outstanding dedication.
Preparing for the race required serious planning: a detailed handover schedule, a digital guide with maps and times, and precise time management. One of the biggest challenges was adhering to the rule that teams had to stay within ±10% of their planned finish time – our team managed to do this with only an 8-minute deviation.
“The most memorable moment for me was seeing the team lined up at the start, all wearing matching KIRCHHOFF Automotive shirts – that’s when I truly felt we were in this together,” said Bálint.
After finishing, the team was already discussing future challenges. If possible, we might even enter with two teams next year.
For the company, initiatives like this reflect our values: supporting bottom-up ideas that strengthen team spirit. Ultrabalaton was more than just a sporting achievement – it was a powerful example of teamwork, determination, and shared goals.
Thank you to everyone who ran, organized, cheered, and helped make this dream a reality!
